Motion:To approve the committee assignments.Moved, Nancy Curtin; second, Charlotte Headrick.
Motion approved unanimously.
The issue of joint memberships will be discussed by the elections committee.
2.Approval of gift for Maureen Murphy from general funds.
Motion:to reimburse Mary Helen Thuente for the gift to Maureen Murphy from the general fund ($153).
Moved, Curtin; second, Backus.
Motion approved unanimously.
3.ACIS History Committee.Gillespie asked the past presidents to investigate the possibility of commissioning an insitutional history of ACIS, of university press quality, including possible guidelines and costs.The report would be approved by executive committee and taken to business meeting.Backus suggested such a history might place ACIS in the context of Irish Studies in the US.
4.Motion:to appoint David Gardiner as Treasurer and reappoint Kathryn Conrad as Secretary.Motion approved.
5. .Graduate Representative responsibilities.
Motion:
1.That the graduate student representative attend the Graduate Student Irish Conference as representative, paid for by ACIS in consultation with the Treasurer.
2.That the graduate student representative be consulted by History and Lit in the construction of the AHA and MLA sessions.
Moved O Dochartaigh, second, Meagher.
Motion approved unanimously.
6.New Business:
a.John Harrington is looking for input on construction of the 2002ACIS national meeting:panel construction, chairs and respondents, etc.
b.John HarringtonBook prize committees:discipline representatives should begin to think about book prize committee for books published in 2001; committees should be constituted by September 15.In October:, the prize winners will be announced and new book prize committies announced.Advertisements:the prizes will be announced in October, and the advertisements will ask for submissions.Committee members should consult Harrington for approval of advertisement placement upon receiving estimates of cost.Likely publications in which to place advertisements:Eire-Ireland, New Hibernia Review, ILS.Curtin suggested that AHA, MLA would be effective exposure.
c.Reminder:Next year's conference, June 5-8 in Milwaukee.
